Connection: Niyoga - When a woman (whose husband is incapable of fatherhood) would request and appoint a person for helping her bear a child.
1) Niyoga is the central issue of Anaahat, a Marathi feature film.
2) The Movie Eklavya:The Royal Guard has this practice as the central plot. The title character played by Amitabh Bachchan is torn between his duty and the emotions for his children begotten by the practice of Niyoga.
Examples from Mahabharat:
1) Dhritarashtra, Pandu and Vidura were the three children born by this process when Rishi Vedavyasa was the appointed man.
2) Pandu got married to Madri and Kunti but was unable to father children. Then, Kunti revealed her secret mantra. She used it three times, first receiving a son, Yudishtira, from the god Yama, then Bhima from the god Vayu, and thirdly Arjuna, from the god Indra. Kunti revealed the mantra to Madri, who bore twin sons, Nakula and Sahadeva, from the twin gods the Asvins.
